Beverly Hills
Rodeo Drive is a must-see, and the extravagant shopping strip boils down to just three blocks. Start at Beverly Gardens Park and breeze past the likes of Cartier, Gucci, Prada, Harry Winston and Burberry. It’s like walking through a high-end theme park – especially when you spy some of the price tags on the jewels! Then kick back with some champers at the famous Beverly Wilshire Hotel, where Pretty Womanwas set. Elvis also lived here when he was filming in the 1960s. WHERE TO STAY: The Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire – their ‘Pretty Woman for a Day’ experience gets you behind the scenes at famous Rodeo Drive fashion houses.
West Hollywood
Sure, Sunset Strip is great for night life, but if you want to shop, head to Melrose Avenue. Here you’ll find Stella McCartney, Kitson and the very hip Maxfield, as well as homewares at Jonathan Adler, Design Within Reach and RH West Hollywood. You can also visit inspiring art exhibits along Melrose Avenue, Robertson Boulevard or Beverly Boulevard. There’s great coffee to be had at Alfred Coffee too. WHERE TO STAY: Right on Sunset Strip is the Mondrian, where you will gain more design inspiration – especially at the poolside outdoor living room. They regularly run specials.
Downtown LA
Start at The Bloc Downtown, an open-air urban mall with department stores and restaurants. Then walk along Broadway to find Swedish brand Acne, A.P.C. and the Aussie success story Aesop skincare. Next, head to the museum gift stores at The Broad and Walt Disney Concert Hall for jewellery and ceramics. Finish up in the old area of Olvera Street, where you’ll find Mexican trinkets while mariachis serenade you. WHERE TO STAY: For a boutique experience, try the Tuck Hotel. Their breakfast pancakes are the world’s best!
The Mid-Wilshire District
Every visit to this outdoor mall guarantees a celebrity sighting – after all, it’s right next door to CBS Studios. Shop at Nordstrom, Anthropologie or the Apple Store, see a movie, or just enjoy the scene at one of the alfresco cafes. The real secret, though, is right next door at the Original Farmer’s Market, where stalls sell some of the best Mexican, seafood and bakery treats in the city. WHERE TO STAY: Just across the road, the Farmer’s Daughter offers country-styled rooms and down-home hospitality.
