For weeks, rumours of a rift between the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex have dominated worldwide headlines, and it’s been revealed that tensions hit boiling point at one particular engagement.
Speaking to PEOPLE, a family friend of the royals confirmed Meghan and Kate clashed in the days leading up to the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding to Prince Harry on May 19.
“There was an argument between Meghan and Kate over the fit of [3-year-old] Princess Charlotte‘s dress,” the source confirms.
A different insider said, “There were very few fittings for the bridesmaids. Everything was left to the last minute, and it was really stressful for everyone involved.”
Kate was reportedly “left in tears” over the incident, though exactly what upset her is still unclear.
Several sources further claim there was a huge amount of stress surrounding all those involved in the wedding.
Tensions also reportedly mounted in the leadup to Meghan’s big day after the Queen turned down the soon-t-be royals first choice of tiara to wear on her wedding day.
It was one of many fraught royal wedding conversations, which, according to royal biographer Robert Jobson, left Harry shouting at staff, “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets!”
