Ten days after announcing her separation from husband Lachlan Gillespie, The Wiggles’ Emma Watkins appeared on Australian Story to talk about the break up in detail.

“A lot of people have said to us that they just can’t see how it can be so amicable,” Emma admits. “But truly, Lachy and I, we just get each other. Just because we’re not romantically together anymore doesn’t mean we’re not together for the rest of our life.

“I feel really lucky to have him supporting me through the whole thing, which sounds bizarre, but this is our life and we are so connected.”

“If we can get through this we can get through anything,” she says with a smile.

Emma remains remarkably upbeat and says work keeps them busy and is somewhat a blessing.

“We’re filming every single day and we recorded 100 songs in two weeks,” she says, “So when all the media broke I just kept thinking, ‘I can’t read that, I’ve got to read lyrics for a song.’

“I think being busy has been very helpful,” she adds.

“I think that’s been the best thing because we’ve been able to deal with it together,” she says. “Of course it’s been a challenge but I don’t ever see myself facing anything without Lachy.”

Despite everything, Emma admits she has no regrets.

“I don’t think I regret anything,” she says. “I still think about our wedding as a beautiful celebration of our friendship regardless.”

“We genuinely care about each other and I think one of the most important things is that he and I have been on the same journey for the last eight years,” she adds explaining that she and Lachy will always be friends.

“We started as best friends and we still are. The only person that really gets me is Lachy.”

“This has been one of the strangest years and it has been tumultuous, but the truth is that Lachy and I love each other and we’ll be in each other’s lives for the rest of our life. And so I think that makes us feel quite calm,” Emma concluded.
