Everyone knows that some reality shows can be highly misleading, and The Masked Singer judge Jackie O has this morning confessed that editing techniques are contributing to the growing perception the show’s judges are bumbling fools.
Amid a deluge of criticism over some of the utterly ridiculous guesses judges have been making about the identities of the masked celebrities, Jackie this morning told KIIS FM listeners that all is not what it seems.

This follows a sting of insultingly dumb guesses – including international A-listers like Susan Boyle, Russell Crowe and Serena Williams – that have viewers increasingly rolling their eyes.
‘You don’t know what they cut,’ Jackie complained following the Twitter backlash over the silliness of it all this morning.
‘The amount of guesses we do, and a lot of the time I’ll be nailing it. I’ll be like, “I think it’s this person and this is why” and I’ll give you all the reasons why from the clue package… nothing included.’
Although admitting some of her more dubious guesses have made the cut, Jackie claimed the content that has been used is ‘really random’ – denying suggestions that editors are deliberating making certain judges look stupid for cheap comedy or fake drama.
‘It’s just for time,’ she insisted to listeners. ‘I know they have to otherwise it would be a three-hour show because we were rabbiting on a lot, but they don’t often show the reasons why we’ve come up with those names, so sometimes we sound like we’re throwing out dumb names.
‘You don’t want to look like an idiot when everyone at home thinks they know who it is.’
Perceptions that dumb guesses are a contrived part of the show’s formula have been bolstered by a similar deluge of complaints on Twitter from viewers of the American version of the show, who are sick of stupid guesses like Lady Gaga – with fans calling out what many perceive as a ‘deliberate’ tactic.
David Hughes was left feeling foolish last night after he mistook Nikki Webster’s voice on The Masked Singer as Olympic skier and former Australian Survivor contestant, Lydia Lassila.
The comedian proclaimed that he was ‘sure’ who was behind the alien mask, despite the fact he has had a close working relationship with the famed Aussie child star before.
When it was revealed the ‘Strawberry Kisses’ singer was the celebrity behind the mask, David almost couldn’t believe how he missed all the familiar clues, exclaiming: ‘Nikki was on my TV show, “Hughesy We Have a Problem”‘.
‘I thought you’d get me first,’ Nikki the confessed.
