Princess Mary steps out in all-black after receiving tragic news

Australian-born royal Princess Mary stepped out in an all-black ensemble in Copenhagen on Feb. 4 – as she mourned the loss of a family friend.

The princess presented an award for the Cancer Society in honour of World Cancer Day dressed in a tuxedo-style jacket and black pants.

The princess was determined to continue her royal engagement for such a good cause despite the loss of a 27-year-old pal.

Young Danish count, Frederik Moltke, died a week earlier in Japan in a skiing accident.

The Count was reportedly on holiday with family and friends when he was killed on Jan. 23.

On Feb. 2, Princess Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik looked sombre as they attended the funeral service.

Mary chose to wear black for that occasion also – opting to wear a headband in her hair and a long black coat.

Count Frederik was the owner of a large noble estate, Bregentved – which has royal connections.

According to the estate website, In 1718, Frederick IV purchased it, and by 1746, Bregentved was bestowed to his prime minister and closest advisor A.G. Moltke.

It has since become one of Europe’s largest agricultural enterprises with a staff of around 35.
