After meeting in the early 1970s, the pair ended up marrying other people – Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowles, and Charles married Lady Diana Spencer.
While both their respective marriages broke down in the 1990s, it took until 2005 for the pair to finally marry.
But before they were officially ‘together’, and Charles was still married to Diana, a tape was leaked which caused a scandal that almost broke the royal family apart.
The tape revealed a shocking conversation between Charles and Camilla from 1989.
On the tape, Charles told Camilla: “I want to feel my way along you, all over you, and up and down you, and in an out.”
Camilla gushed: “Oh Charles!”
Camilla then said: “Oh, that’s just what I need at the moment.”
The pair continued their flirting, with Charles admitting he needed Camilla “several times a week”.
Camilla replied: “Mmmmm, so do I. I need you all the week. All the time.”
Charles then joked: “I’ll just live inside your trousers, or something. It would be much easier!”
When Camilla joked about him turning into a “pair of knickers”.
Charles then bizarrely added: “Or God forbid a Tampax!”
He then teased about being “chucked down the lavatory”.
The odd conversation continued about Tampax before Camilla pined for Charles again.
She said: “Oh darling, I just want you now.”
The tape was leaked to the press in 1993, shorty after Charles and Diana separated.
According to Ken Warfe, who was the princess’ personal protection officer at the time, Diana described the recordings between her estranged husband and Camilla as “sick.”
“She told me that she had been genuinely shocked by some of the baser comments, particular the Prince’s tampon reference. ‘It’s just sick,’ she said repeatedly,” Warfe claimed in his book Guarding Diana: Protecting The Princess Around The World.
