The drama leading up to the nuptials of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles ran so deep, everyone from the Queen to the British public had an opinion about their union.

The Duchess of Cornwall and the Prince Of Wales met and fell in love in 1970, but after Charles joined the Royal Navy in 1971 their relationship faltered, and the couple eventually broke up – and so begun one of the most scandalous love stories on royal history.

In between their first meeting and their marriage in 2005, both Charles and Camilla married.

Charles would later carry out a now-infamous (and highly salacious) affair on his wife, Diana Spencer, with Princess Diana later claiming the stress of her husband’s infidelity paid a severe toll on her mental health.

The subsequent scandal caused a rift between the future King of England and Her Majesty that was so severe, Queen Elizabeth refused his 50th birthday invitation in early 2000, almost a full year after Prince Charles and Camilla went public with their relationship.

After Charles and Camilla announced their engagement the press had an absolute field day, with public opinion polls revealing that the masses were not ok with the Prince Wales marrying his mistress.

Royal biographer Penny Junor in The Firm: The Troubled Life of the House of Windsor recalled receiving emails from unhappy viewers of BBC Breakfast, expressing their utter disgust at the news.

Ms Juror even claims a woman stood outside Charles and Camilla’s residence of Clarence House to yell “you will bever be king” at Charles.

Even though the public was initially hesitant about the union, by the time their wedding date came around there was a largely positive response from the British people.

Ms Juror told Vanity Fair: “She looked endearingly frightened when she stepped out of the car with Charles and waved briefly before disappearing into Guildhall.

Their love story may have been unconventional, but these two really are made for each other!
