Camilla Parker-Bowles made a surprise appearance alongside her mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II for the state opening of Parliament in London – which some Twitter users deeming ‘unnecessary.’

The Queen’s speech touched on the hefty topics of Brexit, the NHS, crime and justice, but all eyes were on the Duchess of Cornwall, who was seated closely to her husband, Prince Charles in the House of Lords.
According to Express, one Twitter user wrote “Queeny bought Camilla with her??” while another wrote “Charles and Camilla. Is that really necessary?”
This is the second time Charles is joining his mother for the state opening of Parliament.
Prior to 2017, the Prince of Wales’ seat was occupied by his father, Prince Philip.
The Duke of Edinburgh retired from his royal duties in 2017, leaving the position open to another senior member of the royal family.
However, according to Express, this is the first time the heir apparent was joined by his wife Camilla for the Queen’s Speech.
The Duchess appeared to be in the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee State Coach alongside the other members of the royal family.
The 72-year-old wore a lavish white dress and a dazzling tiara, which one royal fan marvelled over.
“Camilla looks incredible! #queensspeech,” they wrote on Twitter.
Others were more perturbed by the cost of the ceremony for the state opening of Parliament in the Palace of Westminster.
“How much does all this cost?” a user said.
The Queen herself brought two different crowns into the House of Lords for ceremony.
The Imperial State Crown features 2,868 diamonds, including the 317-carat Cullinan II diamond, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds and 269 pearls.
The crown was placed on a red velvet cushion to the right of the Queen’s Throne, while her Majesty wore the George IV State Diadem.
The 93-year-old has worn the Imperial State Crown – which was made for the coronation of King George VI in 1937 – at almost every opening of Parliament since she began her reign.
It is believed the British monarch may have made the swap because of the large weight of the traditional crown.
In last year’s BBC documentary, The Coronation, the 93-year-old joked that the crown can be difficult to wear, particularly during the Queen’s speech.
“You can’t look down to read the speech,” she explained. “Because if you did, your neck would break — it would fall off.”
