In a feature in popular Danish magazine Her & Nu, the matter was given considerable attention, with publication noting, ‘Mary has not been wearing her wedding ring and her engagement ring for a week or so.’

Seeking comment from the palace, it was revealed that ‘The royal house informs that they are being cleaned.’

Not helping matters is the fact that the drama comes amid a period of upheaval in the palace. Princess Mary will be cutting down on her royal responsibilities to spend more time with her children in Geneva as they attend boarding school.

Prince Christian, 13, Princess Isabella, 12, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, eight, will be attending a school in Switzerland next year.

According to 9 Honey, Crown Princess Mary said, ‘We view it as a gift to our children, one where they can be together about it, and a gift they can have with them for the rest of their lives.’

The publication added that Princess Mary and her husband Crown Prince Frederik plan to divide their time between their home of Amalienborg Palace, in Copenhagen, and a new residence in Switzerland.

Currently, the royal couple represent the Danish royal family full-time and will continue to carry out official engagements.

Recently, Princess Mary was given power to act as a head of state in the absence of her mother-in-law, Queen Margrethe and her husband.

9 Honey reported that the royal was ‘very proud’ to take on the duties of the Queen should the 79-year-old fall ill, travel overseas, or be unable to fulfil her duties.

Whether the rings come back more sparkly than ever remains to be seen!
