HRH The Duke of Cambridge was attending the Centrepoint 50th Anniversary Gala, held at Roundhouse in Camden, where 28-year-old Rita performed later that night.
William, in a green velvet jacket, black bow tie and trousers, was complimented on his outfit by the ‘I Will Never Let You Down’ singer.
“I love your suit” she gushed.
“Well, you’ve got to get it out occasionally!” he said.
The Duke has been Centrepoint’s Patron since 2005.
The homeless charity has always been close to the Prince’s heart, and as children, William and his brother Prince Harry made private visits to Centrepoint services with their mother, the late Diana Princess of Wales, who herself was Centrepoint’s Patron.
British music icons Duran Duran also played at the event, and met Prince William ahead of their performance.
Ellie Goulding and her husband Caspar Jopling showed their support, while Lady Kitty Spencer was also in attendance at the star studded event.
Prince William spoke movingly about his Centrepoint patronage.
“Tonight is a celebration of all the things you guys have done all the challenges you’ve overcome.
“You guys tell me how amazing it is, getting back out there and feeling part of the community is so important.”
In his speech, William said: “Centrepoint is one of the first charities of which I became patron.
“I chose to do that because visiting Centrepoint services with my mother made such a lasting impression on me as a child.
“And it still makes a lasting impression on me today.”
But he clarified: “I hope that Centrepoint will not need to be around in another 50 years.
“It’s upsetting that in 2019 we have still not managed to end youth homelessness.”
