A stuntwoman has died on the set of Deadpool 2, police have confirmed.
According to witnesses, the unnamed female motorcyclist lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the Shaw Tower in Vancouver on Monday morning.
She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Speaking with Global News, an onlooker has described the chaotic scene.
“People were running on the sidewalk, the motorcycle comes flying across the street, looks like from a ramp because it was in the air,” the witness said.
“[The rider was] standing on the bike, slams into that building, clearly hit and out-of-control and clearly not planned.”
It’s believed this was the woman’s first film as a stunt performer. Deadline report that she was a motorcross expert and was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
Actor Ryan Reynolds, who is reprising his role as Deadpool for the sequel, has released a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram.
20th Century Fox also paid their respects in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning,” the statement read.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
Deadpool 2 is set to be released in theatres in 2018.
