Luke Perry’s co-stars react to his tragic death

Luke Perry’s Riverdale co-stars have paid tribute to the late actor.

The 52-year-old died less than a week after her suffered a stroke. According to his publicist, Perry was surrounded by his family and friends when he died.

“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning,” his publicist said in a statement.

Molly Ringwald, who plays Perry’s estranged wife, Mary Andrews, on Riverdale, tweeted, “My heart is broken. I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family. #LukePerry.”

Meanwhile, the official Twitter account for the CW show wrote: “Luke Perry… you were a joyful and vibrant soul. You will be missed but most certainly your legacy will be remembered forever. Rest in love and peace, friend. #Riverdale.”

“Please. I beg of you to show Luke’s beautiful family the respect and privacy that they deserve during this devastating time,” Mädchen Amick, another co-star, wrote on Twitter. “Sending love to them.”

A source told PEOPLE that Perry simply never woke up from the massive stroke.

He remained under “heavy sedation” for five days while in the hospital until he died on Monday, the source says.

“He never regained consciousness,” the source explains. “Things were so dire that they put him under heavy sedation. He was gone, basically, by the time he got to the hospital.”

TMZ reported that paramedics were called to the Riverdale stars home in Sherman Oaks, California at around 9.40 am February 28, where he was then taken to the local hospital.

Perry found fame on the hit 90’s show Beverly Hills 90210 and is currently starring on Netflix’s Riverdale, playing Archie Andrews’ dad, Fred.

He has two children with ex-wife Rachel ‘Minnie’ Sharp, son Jack, 21, and 18-year-old daughter Sophie.

In lieu of flowers, the Perry family ask that donations be made to Fight Colorectal Cancer this link opens in a new tab and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
