MAFS Cam & Jules shock: The experts got it WRONG

Wow!

They are by far Married at First Sight’s most successful couple, having fallen for each other after meeting as strangers.

But as rumours swirl over just how real the reality TV show is, with whispers of fake couples and suggestions the whole cast are hired actors, it begs the question; are Cam Merchant and Jules Robinson a legitimate couple?

Pictures obtained by New Idea show the ex-pro cricketer and business owner arriving separately to the final dinner party and looking unhappy. Now, Cam and Jules set the story straight to New Idea about their relationship.

“The thing is, when you’re around a lot of people who the public can see are maybe not genuine, they obviously start to question what’s real and what’s not,” Jules explains.

“I think we’ve been true to ourselves from day one and we’ve been us.

“[But] for me, it really, really does [upset me if people think we’re not genuine]. There’s been so many things online saying, ‘they are actors’. You know what, if someone is a lawyer now and they did a TV ad when they were 12, does that mean they’re not a lawyer? No-one is a professional actor in there.

“I read an article that said, ‘Cam and Jules are actors’ and that we’re just a decoy from the drama to bring it back to earth kind of thing. You know what? We’ve got something that has real legs and it’s just time – not that we have to prove it to anyone but no-one in there is acting.”

The couple also reveal what they think about fellow MAFS participant Sam Ball, who previously has said, “It’s not completely real.”

“As much as Sam might go along now and say [it’s all fake],” Jules says, before Cam adds, “I think he did what he did and then realised he was in deep and then just completely regretted it and he had to find the quickest way out [by saying it’s fake].”

Throughout the history of the show, the experts’ credibility has come into question but Cam and Jules have a unique stance on them and their skills. “I thanked the experts and said: ‘you give me faith in what you guys do as a TV show and what you’ve done and with Cam and I’,” Jules says.

“I do believe because we were both so ready and honest in our application, that’s how you’re going to succeed. If you’re going to come in and be like: ‘I’m so confident and I’m so this and that’ and pretend, how are you going to be matched properly anyways? We got matched well because we were honest. So, I do respect what they do. I really like all of them and I’m eternally grateful for them matching us.”

But Jules and Cam are both in agreement that the experts got it wrong when they critiqued Heidi harshly during the commitment ceremonies.

“I never agreed with the way Heidi was made to feel on the couch,” Jules spills. “I didn’t agree with that. I felt it was kind of aimed at her and not them as a couple. I didn’t appreciate that.”

The deeply in love couple, who have officially moved into Jules’ Eastern Sydney apartment, spill the beans on their plans post show, and spoiler, it includes more TV! “We’re going to go on The Block!” Jules shares.

“The next stage of the Jules and Cam story – building their family home! We caught up with [last year’s Block stars] Sara and Hayden, they’re so lovely and such a great couple. If [the opportunity to go on The Block] came our way we would 100 per cent do it. I love all that. I’d just tell Cam what to do.”

Cam’s keen to shake up the show, if they’re to appear.

“It would either make or break our relationship, that’s for sure! But if we can do MAFS, we can do anything,” he laughs.

“I’ll be talking to Scotty Cam saying, ‘What’s going on mate, we need to shake things up! We need a commitment ceremony, we need a big dinner party, get all the couples close together!’”
