“I have to have children,” he tells New Idea.

“[Raychel] is from a family of five and she wants a big family. I’m from a family of two and I’m happy with that, but if that’s what she wants, she is my girl, so hopefully we can have a big family for her.

“It might be a mad house at my place in a few years!”

While the broody couple are keen to start expanding their family, they also have a wedding to plan.

“It’s not happening this year, it’s happening next year,” he reveals.

“I don’t want to rush [the planning], I want to enjoy going to the venues and tasting food and doing it all together. I have always wanted to get married… it’s exciting times.”

Luke concedes that their relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing as he is constantly travelling back and forth between Australia, where he filming The Proposal, and the US, where Raychel is currently living.

“I think my [frequent flyer] points will be through the roof over the next year going back and forth,” he laughs.

“But thank God for technology, we FaceTime and talk every day.”

While Raychel is planning to eventually make a permanent move Down Under, Luke is hoping that he can get her over here sooner to watch him in his new hosting role on The Proposal.

“It’s hard doing long distance,” he says.

“So, I would love for her to come out and watch this show. She is really romantic, so she will enjoy it.”

Based on the American show of the same name, the series features a marriage proposal between two strangers – and it all unfolds in one episode!

Eligible singles will compete in four pageant-style rounds to win the heart of a mystery suitor or suitress. And, the final round could see the suitor get down on one knee and pop the question.

“I just proposed so I know exactly how those people feel,” says Luke of why he signed up.

“I can really empathise with these people and say ‘I know how you’re feeling, this is the moment that can change your life’.

“It’s the best question I ever asked and I can’t wait to see how other people do it.”

Speaking of proposals makes Luke incredibly nostalgic for the emotional moment he asked Raychel to be his wife.

After asking the men in her family for permission, Luke popped the question over Thanksgiving dinner.

“I proposed to her in front of her entire family in California..I got on one knee and Raychel started crying right away. I had to ask her a minute later, ‘is it a yes?!'” he laughs.

“I get goosebumps every time I talk about it. It makes me melt.”
