She’s one of the most glamorous women in the world, but despite that Michelle Obama’s skincare and makeup regime is refreshingly simple.
When you’re the First Lady of the United States, the world is pretty much your oyster. You can indulge in the most exotic, exquisite and expensive skincare regimes and then apply the most wonderfully-expensive makeup over the top, but Michelle Obama just isn’t the type.
Turns out the the former FLOTUS is more your gentle soap and plain moisturiser type of woman and her makeup routine is equally basic. Still, she manages to look stunning at all times so clearly she’s doing something very, very right.
According to her long-time friend and personal makeup artist Carl Ray, who recently spoke to Refinery29 about his work with the former political wife, Michelle actually does a swag of things right. Let’s take a quick look at what some of those things are.
Michelle has long said she always cleanses before she heads to bed. Always, always, always. She also uses a moisturiser that’s suited to her skin and she never ever steps outdoors without a quality sunscreen protecting her fine features. On top of that, she sticks with a makeup style that flatters her rather than chase trends.
Michelle does love a quality skincare product or three. I mean, who doesn’t? But she tends to keep it real, particularly when working with Carl who professes to using some very inexpensive items indeed.
For example, his favourite cleanser when working with Michelle? Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser which retails for a mere $16.99 for a whopping 500mls. Often it’s on sale for even less.
Carl also loves the basic yet awesome Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream, $40 and his choice of makeup is snappily priced too with his current favourites including Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation, $67.
We don’t know exactly which highlighter Michelle uses which is a shame because damn the woman glows like nobody’s business. Some of that may be due to the fact that she no longer holds the position of FLOTUS and so can relax a teeny bit, but we reckon there’s a genius shimmer product on those gorgeous cheeks too.
Until she reveals what that is, we recommend you try BECCA Glow on the Go Kit, $35.
