It sounds conceited but being faced with my mortality at 34, I’ve started wondering about what my legacy will be. If cancer kicks my butt, how will I be remembered? Will I be remembered for my writing, my wit, my sense of humour? Or will my headstone read ‘Here lay Naomi Evans. Always tired in life, may she rest now, forever at peace’. Yikes!

I’d like to be remembered as a philanthropist who brought about world peace and ended world hunger but at least for now, I’ve left my run a bit late.

Unfortunately we can’t control how others remember us. Our son is just as likely to remember me as the cranky Mama who slept all the time and whose shift work dictated our lives as he is to remember me as someone who was sick all the time, or as someone who changed his life.

Because we have no idea of how we affect the lives of others I asked a few people what they thought my legacy in life would be. Of the responses I got, my favourite is that I will be remembered as someone who made others feel as though they could do anything.

Not too shabby!
