Six ways to get rid of cellulite fast

Healthy tips from a fitness pro

Cellulite is nothing more than regular body fat peeking through the connective tissue in our skin. It is perfectly normal and roughly eight out 10 women have it.

And yet – despite it being so common and so very normal, the vast majority of us would absolutely love to be rid of it.

The good news is that it is possible to ease visible dimples in our skin, says health and fitness pro Belinda Norton.

Belinda, author of the book Fit Mama (Murdoch Books, $29.99), believes that cellulite is largely due to our diets. Belinda, a mum of two, recommends we follow a well-balanced diet rich in lean protein, loads of vegetables plus plenty of leafy greens and a little quinoa and rice.

Eat a diet like this one and your cellulite will be reduced, says Belinda.

For maximum results, however, Belinda recommends we also do the following.

Speed Weight Circuits

These fast-paced sessions combine high repetitions with light weights. Belinda suggests we aim for at least two or three a week.

Water and Plenty of it

Drinking water throughout the day will help ‘flush’ the body, says Belinda.

This will reduce bloating, she says, and also stop you from becoming dehydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help you to retain energy too.

Cardio Exercise

“Complete a 30-minute cardio session every day before breakfast. Without fail,” says Belinda.

“Either walk, run, cycle or do a mini functional-fitness circuit. Cardio exercise helps to target stubborn fat in the hips, thighs and lower back,” she adds.

Lean Protein

Add a protein shake to your post workout routine, suggests Belinda.

Consider another mid-afternoon. This will help fight off a dip in blood sugar so that you can steer clear of high-sugar snacks.

Do Some Yoga

Yoga or Pilates once a week will help to banish any unwanted dimples. The strong, powerful movements boost blood flow and help flush out lactic-acid build up, says Belinda.

“Stretching also helps empty fatty deposits into the blood stream,” she says.

Get Some Me Time

Have a massage every couple of months, if not every month. This will help you to relax and to flush toxins from the body. You can also hand a handful of Epsom salts to a hot bath. Ah. See? Relaxed already. Plus the Epsom salts help to ease fluid retention which can make cellulite more obvious.
