It’s one of the cult items from Kmart’s new range, and one clever lady has taken it to a whole new level with an amazing new hack. The Bargain Hacker – a fabulous Facebook page which does amazing hacks with Kmart products – unveiled her amazing cupboard, which she created using two unlikely products from the bargain store. Using the $69 Kmart Room Screen and the $35 Kmart 8 Cube Unit, she made an amazing piece that would rival a fancy $2000 designer version!
She writes: ‘A little while ago I was contemplating whether to hack the Kmart Room Screen ……..well I couldn’t help myself!
‘I ended up creating a little Rattan Look Cupboard using one room screen and two Oak look units from Kmart.
‘It’s quite detailed so I haven’t put all the instructions on here and I’m in the process of setting up a YouTube Channel so it’s easier to see me in action!I’ll let everyone know when it’s up and running!‘Other materials used were handles from Mitre 10, legs from Bunnings and Plywood from Bunnings! There were some other pieces of wood used for the top and base to stabilise it! ‘It’s not perfect and many mistakes were made along the way but I chose the Oak units from Kmart because they were the exact height for the screen 122cm!!!‘I ended up using one whole oak unit and a half of another to make a third row – as this worked out perfectly for the width!‘I also had to consult with hubby in regards to cutting pieces of wood accurately – something I’m still mastering!’The end result is a gorgeous and stylish cupboard for a fraction of the cost of designer cupboards, with similar versions retailing for around $2000.‘This is the cheaper version using the rounded sections as you only need one screen,’ the Bargain Hacker says.‘I also want to make another one using the rectangular section but that means buying two Room Screens – more expensive to make.’She went on to say that she’d be posting videos soon of the process – as well as more Instagram posts on her page #lookwhat_i_found. Love it!
