Caterina Mete, who was named a Red Wiggle in 2021, has welcomed “two little miracles” into the world.
Her identical twin daughters wiggled their way into the world on June, 25, a few weeks shy of their July due date.
“Double the joy, double the love!” a thrilled Caterina shared in her official announcement.
“I am so thrilled to announce the arrival of my precious twin girls, Dolly and Gigi. My heart is overflowing with happiness as I welcome to the world my two little miracles.”
The Wiggles were quick to express their excitement for the new mum-of-two with a sweet statement of their own: “We are absolutely thrilled for Caterina and the arrival of her beautiful twin girls. Her journey to motherhood has been truly inspiring, and we can’t wait to meet these adorable new additions to The Wiggles’ family.”
To celebrate the newest arrival to The Wiggles family, the children’s entertainment group released a new music video to their song about twins called ‘Double Happy.’
In it, Dolly and Gigi make their official on-camera debut alongside their mother, alongside purple Wiggle Lachy and his twin daughters Lulu and Lottie, and purple Wiggle John and his twin brother, Lenny.
In April 2024, Caterina, 43, discussed her “challenging” pregnancy journey during an appearance on Stellar’s podcast Something To Talk About.
The Wiggles star began egg-freezing when she was 37 after her friend had questioned whether it was something she had ever considered.
“The first egg retrieval, they managed to retrieve seven eggs, and I did it the next year and they only got one, and then I did it the following year and they got two,” Caterina said on the podcast.
“Then, during Covid, as hard as it was for everybody, it was a time to reassess your life and see what you wanted to do. I was like, I think I’m ready to have children.”
When the soon-to-be mother announced her pregnancy in February 2024, she shared a video on The Wiggles’ official YouTube channel, revealing it was made possible thanks to an anonymous donor provided by her fertility clinic.
“I am immensely grateful for the incredible team at my fertility clinic and the technology that has made this possible,” she said.
“Becoming a mother has always been a dream of mine. I feel overwhelmingly blessed to share that I am expecting two beautiful little miracles.
“This journey has been challenging but filled with so much love and support.
“I can’t wait to meet my twin girls and embark on this exciting new chapter of my life. I’d also like to thank everyone at The Wiggles for their unwavering support.”
Caterina also shared the news on Instagram, captioning the post, “I’m so excited for the adventure ahead, and I can’t wait to be a mum.”
“I look forward to sharing more with you as I continue on this incredible journey.”
The Wiggles were “overjoyed” for Caterina and said: “We are filled with pride as we prepare to welcome two new beautiful members to The Wiggles’ family.”
“Caterina’s strength, courage, and unwavering optimism have inspired us all. We cannot wait to meet her twin girls and watch her embrace the joys of motherhood.”
Friends of Caterina took to the comments section to congratulate her.
Matildas star Katrina Gorry wrote, “Got tears in my eyes. Congratulations🤍🤍.”
John Pearce, member of The Wiggles penned, “Congratulations Caterina! Hearing about your pregnancy has brought so much joy to us all. You’re going to bring so much love and happiness to your twin girl’s lives. Looking forward to the beautiful songs we’ll sing and dance to with the newest Wiggles! 💜”
“Congratulations Caterina, on your beautiful news! Looks like there will be a couple more red Wiggles to join us all! Can’t wait to meet them! ❤️❤️,” wrote Simon Pryce, another fellow Wiggle.
Caterina has been part of the children’s entertainment group for over 20 years when she joined as Dorothy the Dinosaur in 2003.
As of 2021, she remains one of the voice and suit actresses for Dorothy.
And for now, the star will be enjoying some much-needed time with her little ones away from the spotlight on maternity leave.
