Walking the red carpet at this week’s Academy Awards, all eyes will be on Aussie actress Nicole Kidman.
But while Nic’s career is at an all-time high after her acclaimed performance in Lion, there’s another secret that’s making this the best year of her life, giving her that unmistakable glow.
Nicole has confirmed that she and husband Keith Urban will welcome a new baby this year, after years of desperately trying to conceive.
While she has spent two years concentrating on her career and filming back-to-back films and TV series, she and Keith, 49, have decided to focus their efforts in 2017 on making their baby dream come true.
‘That happiness you’ll see on the red carpet at the Oscars isn’t just to do with her nomination,’ says a friend of the A-list couple. ‘It’s the glow of a mum who’s keeping a very joyous secret.
‘For years, they’ve tried to conceive naturally and have hoped a miracle would happen. But now they’ve decided to go down the surrogacy route and are actively looking for the right woman to carry their third baby.
‘They’ve already been in touch with the same broker they used to conceive Faith and are hoping to have contracts sorted in six to eight weeks.
‘Now that Nicole and Keith have made this decision, there is no stopping them. The last two years have been about their careers, with Nicole focused on nailing a big role after a few box office flops, and Keith doing his wildly successful Ripcord tour. But now’s the time for family. Nicole’s nearly 50 and they’ve realised it’s now or never for baby number three.’
Sources say Nicole, 49, has openly discussed her and Keith’s baby plans in the lead-up to the Oscars at several pre-red carpet events. It’s not the first time she’s made a baby announcement during the awards season – revealing the arrival of Faith at the 2011 Golden Globes.
‘Oh, Nicole’s not hiding it,’ says an industry insider. ‘She’s been very vocal about how she would love to win another Oscar – but what she wants more than anything is another baby.
‘It’s all anyone can talk about on the Academy Awards circuit.’
Nicole – who has an adopted daughter Bella, 24, and son Connor, 22, with ex-husband Tom Cruise – has made no secret of her dreams of another baby, a brother or sister to Sunday, eight, and Faith, six.
‘I still have the faintest hope that something may happen to me this year,’ she told The Mail On Sunday’s Event magazine.
‘Keith and I would love to have more babies. My grandmother gave birth to my mother at 49. I would be beyond happy and just welcome it with open arms.
