Christian Wilkins has spoken out about how he was the victim in a vicious verbal homophobic attack at the Melbourne Cup.
The son of the TODAY show host Richard Wilkins shared on Instagram the horrific account of what happened on Tuesday at The Birdcage.
Posting a story, the 23-year-old posted an image of the man who he says was rude to him.
โNot one to usually call people out butโฆ,โ he wrote.
โThis man called me a โfu***** f*gโ who should โgo the f**k back homeโ now three times.โ
Wilkins publicly came out in Cosmopolitan, saying, โIโve now taken it upon myself to become the best damn gay I can be!โ
His father has been exceptionally supportive of his sonโs sexuality.
After the same-sex bill came through, he said:
โMy son Christian has been a passionate advocate for marriage equality.โ
โTo see the joy and relief on his face yesterday made me very happy and extremely proud of my beautiful boy.โ
โIt feels to me like we all grew up a little bit yesterday. I love you very much darling, very proud. Thank you.โ
