Married At First Sight’s jilted groom Andrew has landed himself in hot water with fans – forcing him into hiding after he was bombarded with threats.
It was after the 38-year-old firefighter belittled his on-screen partner, Cheryl, that outraged viewers unleashed their fury on recent photos posted to his personal Instagram account.
“They started appearing during the show and went on well into the night,” says a source. “He tried to delete them to begin with but they were so relentless he didn’t know what to do and just shut down his accounts.”
Branding him a bully and making physical threats of violence, the shocked reality star is now refusing to go out in public because of concerns for his safety.
“You’re a disgusting coward and if I ever bump into you I will give you a good flogging,” wrote one fan. “A disgrace to Western Australia, the Fire Department and your own mother,” added another.
“He was completely blindsided by it all,” says a source. “He doesn’t want to leave the house in case people recognise him and is actually really stressed out.”
But while he has been branded this year’s villain, after his shocking display on recent episode, he is not the only one receiving the backlash. Channel Nine has been slated for showing Andrew’s behavior, and been accused of encouraging bullying.
And Andrew’s close friends, twins Michelle and Sharon also received thousands of abusive messages for supporting their mate.
Dubbing them “Australia’s most hated women,” fans warned that they could do “great things for young woman,” if they turned their back on their old netball pal.
“Drop that dog Jonesy, open your eyes. You are losers,” one wrote.
“The girls are really shaken up by it all because they never expected any of this,” says a source. “They both went on a blocking spree and were up half the night deleting all of the nasty comments and banishing anyone with anything negative to say.”
Meanwhile both hairdresser Cheryl and Andrew’s television wife Lauren were both vindicated of their part in the turbulent relationships with fans sympathising with them and wishing them well for their future.
