Zac Efron, 36, and Nicole Kidman’s, 57, new movie has got a lot of people talking – in this case, for worse.
Called A Family Affair, the flick follows a younger woman (Joey King) who discovers her mother (Nicole Kidman) is having an affair with her boss (Zac Efron).
Juicy, right? The ‘older woman, younger man’ trope worked for The Idea of You with Anne Hathaway. Surely Nicole and Zac can pull this off?
Well. The reviews say no. Currently, A Family Affair is sitting at pretty dismal 41% on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 29% audience score.
“The scenes in A Family Affair drag more than they dazzle,” one unimpressed reviewer wrote. “Even actors like Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron can’t save this tepid rom-com.”
OK, well that’s not good.
To add insult to injury, the movie itself seems to have been overshadowed by something else entirely – Zac Efron’s jaw.
Fans have inundated social media with comments about “how different” the High School Musical star looks, claiming it’s all thanks to Botox and plastic surgery.
That’s showbiz, baby!
But according to the actor, his transformation is due to something else entirely.
What happened to Zac Efron’s jaw?
Speaking to Men’s Health in 2022, the 36-year-old recalled the moment he woke up with his chin bone hanging off his face.
The actor was running through his house in socks – a rookie error. He slipped, smacked his face on the granite corner of a fountain, then lost consciousness.
Zac underwent physical therapy to rehabilitate the injury. Some of the “masseter muscles” in his face – the ones used for chewing – had to compensate for others.
While in Australia, the actor stopped his physical therapy at which point “the masseters just grew”.
At this time, the internet was aflame with rumours about Zac Efron and his jaw, but the Greatest Showman star was blissfully unaware until his own mother called to ask if he had undergone plastic surgery,
All the chatter, however, doesn’t get under his skin.
“If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work,” he said.
