King Charles’ coronation is almost here! On May 6, the historic event will kick off and we’ll get to see Charles and his wife Camilla be officially crowned as King and Queen.

As the event is the first of its kind – at least since the late Queen Elizabeth II was crowned 70 years ago in 1953 – and is set to break multiple records, you’ll undoubtedly want to watch it live.
Read on to find out how to watch King Charles’ coronation in Australia, as well as everything else you need to know, including what time the coronation starts and what to expect.
Will the coronation of King Charles be televised?
Yes! The coronation of King Charles will be televised. Read on to find out which channel and streaming services you’ll be able to watch the ceremony on.

Where can I watch the King’s coronation in Australia?
In the UK, King Charles III’s coronation will be broadcast on television via the BBC.
In Australia, ABC and ABC News will broadcast live coverage from London from 5pm AEST on May 6. Listed below is the schedule for King Charles’ coronation and what time (AEST) it’ll air on ABC:
- Preview coverage – 5pm
- Arrivals – 6pm
- Arrivals continued – 7pm
- The King’s Procession – 7.30pm
- Coronation Service – 8pm
- Procession from Westminster – 10pm
- Buckingham Palace Balcony – 10.30pm
Channel 7 will also broadcast live coverage from London on May 6. A special edition of Weekend Sunrise will air from 7am AEST with hosts Monique Wright and Matt Doran providing the ultimate coronation countdown. 7NEWS Spotlight presenter Michael Usher and former BBC royal correspondent Angela Rippon will also provide viewers with coronation countdown content from 4pm AEST on Channel 7.
King Charles’ coronation will then air live on Channel 7 and 7Plus from 7pm AEST until the historic event is over (roughly 11.30pm AEST). Although, Melbourne viewers should note that they’ll have to switch from Channel 7 to 7two from 7.30pm AEST.
Channel 10 has also thrown its hat into the ring and will broadcast live coronation coverage. From 4pm AEST 10’s National Affairs Editor Hugh Riminton will be on the ground in London providing coverage. However, viewers will have to switch to 10 Peach from 5pm to keep watching the coronation as the 10 News First bulletin will be broadcast on Channel 10 at that time. Once the bulletin is over though at 6pm, the coronation will continue on Channel 10 (meaning if you switched to 10 Peach, you’ll have to switch back).
The coronation will also be simulcast live on 10Play.
Alternatively, streaming service BritBox Australia will live-stream the King’s coronation direct from the UK, along with full replay and highlights.

As stated above in greater detail, ABC, Channel 7 and Channel 10 will all broadcast King Charles’ coronation.
What time is the King’s coronation 2023?
King Charles’ coronation will take place on May 6, 2023. The coronation will start at 8pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

What will happen at King Charles’ coronation?
King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will arrive at Westminster Abbey in a procession starting from Buckingham Palace. This is known as the King’s Procession.
Once at Westminster Abbey, Charles and Camilla will take part in a service conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. This service will include their majesties getting anointed, blessed and consecrated by the Archbishop.
The King will then be officially crowned and have the crown of St Edward placed on his head. He will then sit in the Coronation Chair, also known as Edward’s Chair.
While in the Chair, Charles will hold the sovereign’s sceptre and rod, – to represent his control of the nation – and the sovereign’s orb – to represent the Christian world.
According to the Telegraph, the anointing will not be televised but every other part of the service will.
Who will attend the coronation?
2000 guests are set to attend King Charles’ coronation. Among those guests will be Prince William, Princess Catherine and their children George, Charlotte and Louis. Prince Harry is also set to attend but his wife Meghan Markle and their children Archie and Lilibet will not.
Many international royals are also set to attend the coronation including Australian-born Princess Mary and her husband Prince Frederik of Denmark.
