Princess Beatrice and Eugenie have joined forces to give their first ever joint interview in the September issue of British Vogue. The two royal sisters reveal public scrutiny over their fashion choices and lifestyle has led them to many ‘tears’ over the years.
Beatrice and Eugenie revealed the public scrutiny over their fascinators at the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton left them both in tears.
‘There was a horrible article that had been written about Beatrice and she got really upset,’ Eugenie told the publication.
‘We were just about to step out and she had a bit of a wobble and cried. I was looking after her.
‘And then about an hour later, I had a wobble and started crying and Bea was there for me.’
The two also spoke candidly about Eugenie’s upcoming wedding to Jack Brooksbank, sharing that Beatrice with be maid-of-honour or ‘head bridesmaid.’
Eugenie said, ‘I’m not stressed at all. It’s nerve-racking because you want it to be perfect, but then you realise that you’re going to be with the person you love forever and nothing else really matters.’
The two royals, who are not considered ‘working’ royals like cousins William and Harry, both have full-time jobs.
Beatrice is the vice-president of partnerships and strategy for US-based tech company Afiniti, while Eugenie is an associate director at contemporary art gallery Hauser & Wirth.
Beatrice said: ‘We are the first: we are young women trying to build careers and have personal lives, and we’re also princesses, and doing all of this in the public eye.’
‘We want to show people who we are as working, young, royal women, but also not to be afraid of putting ourselves out there,’ Eugenie added. ‘We’re real.’
When Eugenie and Beatrice do attend royal events, it’s because they choose to, not because they are obliged by royal duty.
Eugenie and Beatrice are the daughters of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson.
