With The Queen having just celebrated her 93rd birthday, there has been growing speculation that she may abdicate the throne in the next few years.
While, Prince Charles is the next in line for the throne there have been rumours swirling that The Queen could in fact skip her son, Prince Charles in favour of crowning her grandchildren, Prince William and Kate.
However, royal commentator Angela Mollard doesn’t think that will ever happen.
“You can’t put the work in that Charles has put in,” she says on the podcast New Idea Royals.
“People always say it because they love the glamour of Will and Kate and their youthfulness and their approach.
“But, Prince Charles has done a damn good job. Actually, he has had fairly progressive interests in terms of sustainability environmentalism, climate change and his instincts have been proven right.”
Of course, Prince Charles certainly won’t have the lengthy reign that his mother enjoyed, given that he is already 70 -years-old, however Angela believes that despite his mistakes we should give Charles a chance.
“I think he deserves that role. When you’re born to that and spend your whole childhood knowing that’s what you are going to do, to think that your son would leapfrog you is ludicrous,” she says.
“So no they shouldn’t leap frog, they should stick to the natural hierarchy. Yes, he has done some stupid things but haven’t many of us?”
