How To Make Your Own Luxe Hair Mask For Less Than $5

Save time and money - LOTS of money!

Great hair makes for a great day. It’s that simple. Maybe you’re born with it. Or perhaps, like the majority of us, your locks require a little love and care. If so, you can hit the salon for a luxurious restorative treatment and walk out with the hair of your dreams. But if you don’t have the time, or the inclination there is another option – and it’s a good one.

You see, it turns out you can whip up a quality hair treatment in the privacy of your very own home and easily too.

All it takes is a handful of common household ingredients, the ability to mix them together and voila – you have your very own salon-worthy hair mask.

“Many of your favourite superfoods have great hair repairing benefits when mixed into a nutrient-rich, egg-based mask,” explains Mukti, the woman behind the all-natural beauty range of the same name.

“Not only are eggs a great source of protein, the fatty yolk is extremely moisturising.”

Apparently, the whites of eggs have beauty benefits too.

“These contain bacteria-eating enzymes that cleanse and help lift the buildup of products, oil and dirt from the scalp,” says Mukti.

To create your luxe hair mask simply beat one to two eggs depending on the length of your hair. Very long locks might even need three eggs.

Apply this mixture to your scalp taking care to massage it from the roots to the very ends of hair. Pop on a shower cap. We like Louvelle Riva Hair Towel Wrap, $35. Leave for half an hour and then rinse.

If you’d like to get extra bang for your buck you can use an all-natural rinse too. Try a couple of tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar diluted in a cup of water. If the smell of the vinegar bothers you, replace it with the juice of a whole lemon instead.

Keen to go natural but not ready to knock up your own products? There are plenty of green hair ranges to choose from and some high quality masks too. We recommend Aveda’s Smooth Infusion Smoothing Mask, $49.95, Grown Alchemist Smoothing Hair Treatment: Hydrolysed Milk Protein, Cationic Guar & Pro-Vitamin A, $30, or Mukti Luxe Hair Serum, $39.95.
