On tonight’s episode of House Rules, much-loved couple Katie and Alex are bought to tears remembering the toughest time in their lives.
The married pair open up to host Joh Griggs and their rival teams about losing their unborn twins a year ago.
“We moved out here after we suffered a devastating miscarriage,” Alex says.
“It’s why we’re here.”
Now proud parents to one-year-old daughter Hallie, Katie and Alex say buying their home is what helped them cope with the miscarriage.
“We went through a lot with the miscarriage,” Katie told New Idea.
“As that was happening it was like, ‘Ok, now we know exactly what we want’. We knew that we want to have kids and we want to have them now and so we set ourselves up and set up exactly where we needed to be.
“I couldn’t be in the house we were living in anymore so we came out for a drive to Gundaroo which is where I grew up and there just happened to be someone selling a house that we knew and we bought it off the market.”
Alex agreed with his wife, adding that the move to the country completely changed their lives.
“We just had to change everything because we couldn’t be in our old lives,” he said.
“I was surprised how much it devastated us, we had to change lifestyles, perspectives, everything.
“This house really healed us.”
