Marni Little and husband Dave Robertshaw are smitten with their new bundle of joy who was born last week on May 21 by caesarean.

Naming their son Charlie Joseph Robertshaw, Marni sits down with New Idea to chat about her first few days with her newborn and how her first son Archie, 4, who she shares with ex-husband and former Home and Away star Dan Ewing, is enjoying being a big brother.

“Josephine was my mother’s mother’s name and Charlie is a good name to go with Archie,” says Marni.

She reveals Charlie’s birth was completely different to Archie’s: “It was a planned caesarean, after the emergency of last time, but this actually caused me a lot more anxiety.

“Knowing what was coming and going into it without labour is eerie and I had too much time to think about what was coming.

“Not that I’d wish an emergency caesarean on anyone, but it is a very different feeling,” she adds.

Meanwhile, Marni says Archie adores Charlie.

“He went home with my mum after meeting Charlie and was so upset to leave,” she says.

“He said he wanted to stay at the hospital to look after Charlie and me. I think he’ll be a natural brother. Charlie has no idea how loved he is going to be.

“Archie brought Dave and I gifts into the hospital and got Charlie a birthday cake to sing happy birthday to him.”

And husband Dave, who she married last October, has been a beacon of support.

“I already considered him a father, he’s been an amazing stepdad to Archie for the last three years, so I guess it was more of a pivot, for both of us!

“It’s been a long time since I had a newborn also – you completely forget everything about it in five years.

“It has been beautiful watching Dave with Charlie though. He hasn’t left our side and has been very hands on, so I’m hoping that continues for the 4am feeds at home.”

That said, Marni admits although Dave was there for the delivery, he passed out and ended up in the recovery ward!

“He had warned me he might! Also, the entire procedure is quite daunting. He managed to take the screen and IV drips down with him, get concussed and bruise his entire body.

“It was actually extremely helpful in taking my mind off what was happening though and we were able to meet up in recovery with matching hospital bands.

“They said it wasn’t the first time they’d seen that happen, but we were definitely a good story around the hospital that day.”

Now Marni is at home, she’s enjoying taking some time off work but says she is still producing.

“I’ll wait and see what sort of baby Charlie is before I make too many commitments and I have promised Archie that I have taken time off to spend with him and the baby. I think he is excited to show off his brother to everyone possible!”
