Sarah Ferguson has opened up on Good Morning Britain to reveal the reason she broke down in tears at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding.
The Duchess of York – and the former wife of Prince Andrew – shared to breakfast talk show host Piers Morgan, Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway the emotional reason behind her breaking down at the royal wedding.
Fergie revealed, “The minute I started to walk [from the car] I kept thinking of Diana in my heart and I thought of my mum and my father who would say, ‘Come on, the show goes on get on with it!”
The Duchess, who was very close to Princess Diana, said she felt supported by the crowd the entire time, “As I came around to corner [of the church], the thing that made me cry was the kind people [in the crowds] who had been so lovely, plus Jack [Brooksbank] was standing there, and coming towards me with open arms,
“It was just very moving.”
Sarah Ferguson divorced Prince Andrew in 1992, and was subsequently ostracised by the Royal family.
It has taken the mother of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie years to get back in the family’s good graces following a string of scandals, that left her off the guest list to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding in 2011.
But it seems the Royal family have let bygones be bygones after inviting Fergie to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding earlier this year.
Fergie told Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, “I felt very, very honoured and grateful for Harry and Meghan to invite me. That is a big, big point.
“It was very kind of them and I can’t thank them enough for doing that because it was nerve wracking.”
Sarah Ferguson finished off the interview by praising the Queen, “Her Majesty is an incredible lady and what an icon for the country and one of the finest people in the world I’ve ever met.”
