He’s the most popular arrogant know-it-all on television, but The Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon will no longer just be played by the actor who originated him, Jim Parsons.
US network CBS has today officially confirmed it has given the go-ahead for a Big Bang prequel series, titled Young Sheldon. The show will feature the character as nine year old in Texas, as he struggles with high school life.
Taking over the role of Sheldon will be child actor Iain Armitage, who appeared in Big Little Lies. But fear not, Jim Parsons fans – the popular actor will be narrating the new show, making sure that the adult Sheldon we all love (or hate) will be a strong presence throughout.
In a cute move, Sheldon’s mum will be played by actress Zoe Perry, who is the real life daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who plays the adult Sheldon’s mum in Big Bang.
And there’s some more good news for fans of the show – with reports that CBS is about to sign off on two more seasons of Big Bang, after the main stars agreed to take pay cuts so Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik got the raises they so richly deserve.
